Carburetor rebuilder recomendations?
« on: June 04, 2018, 10:00:03 AM »
Hi All:

I'm a new member and this is my first post. Glad I found you guys.

I have a 1953 Allard K3 with what I believe is a 1952 Cad 331 motor. I can't find any numbers on the carb, so I do not know if it's original or not, although it looks as though it is. I would like to get the carb (GM Rochester 4 jet) rebuilt, it's tired. I've looked around the web for a remanufacturer, but they all have some good and some bad reviews. Whom would you recommend?

Thanks in advance!
David

I sent mine to the carburetor doctor in Alberta.  They made a complete restoration of my 56 rochester for 500$ canadian.  It looks like new!

If not inclined to do it yourself, then I second Daytona Parts Co.

If inclined to do it yourself then recommend you read this ==> http://graylady.atwebpages.com/CarbRebuild.htm

I, too, was intimidated by the prospect of rebuilding a Rochester 4GC as my first ever attempt at disassembling, cleaning and reassembling a carb.  Until I watched this 4-part video from Mike’s Carburetor Parts: https://m.
. This gave me the courage to try it myself.

I think the parts kit was in the neighborhood of $50 or so, and the process went very smoothly - just as in the videos.  I also purchased a can of chem-dip carb cleaner for ~$30 at the local auto parts store which came with a dunking/soaking basket.

After completing the work, I think the hardest part was disconnecting and reconnecting the linkages.  If you feel confident enough to remove the carb to send it out for a rebuild, you should be more than capable of doing it yourself!
