worm gear odometer

Hi guys,

today I wanted to fix my odometer.

I disassembled the speedometer.
The worn gear ist worn.

Does anybody know where I kann buy a new one?

that is a part we need to get reproduced
very common issue

I guess if you have a working speedometer, I recommend taking it apart and lubricating it to prevent this type of failure
and NEVER  reset trip odometer when moving even a little bit
completely stopped only!

I was just searching with Google and found some links to the old forum, but they don't work anymore.

Next week a friend of mine will take a look on it, perhaps he can rebuild the part....

i believe there was a couple,Blazin did one and now 61peter or peter 61 as he now goes by in California also did a very indepth speedometer repair thread

Hey 61Armin,  did you ever find a solution for the worm gear?  I'm taking mine apart at this very moment, and anticipate the same problem.  My speedometer needle was jumping, so I'm hoping that cleaning it and lubing it will fix the problem.

What did you use to lube the gears when reassembling the head unit?  I've heard mineral oil (baby oil), 3n1 oil, sewing machine oil, etc.

Lubing the speedo cable may also help with jumpy speedo

Hi Brad,

my friend (he is a machine builder) was able to build it after the old part.

To lube the gears I took thin grease.

Til now it works well.
