WTB 1956 Eldorado parts
« on: January 05, 2017, 02:57:06 PM »
I am looking for a bumper jack base and the red hold-down spring that holds the jack tight in the trunk.  I am also looking for a nice gas pedal.
Thank you,  Larry

Larry assuming the Eldo jack is the same or at least has the same base as other models from that year, I believe I have a spare base for a 1956 Cadillac bumper jack. Gonna be dirt cheap. I just picked it up within the last 2 years when I was searching for my own '56 bumper jack. I also have acquired some other hard to find parts as well like the big fat 'lug style' hold down nut which is deeper than a lug nut, plus the 'L' bracket. Also have a spare jack but I believe is for a '57. I also have some extra springs but I believe they are all 1954, 1955 and 1957. Will check. I am told by this site's administrator Lou, that 1956 was year specific for this part. It is the so-called 'wire' hold down spring as opposed to the 'coiled spring' type. I think all were painted red. I also have an original trunk jack instructions card which although is going to go into my car I could scan it for you. That way you could print it and still get an authentic aged look. Think it will fit into my scanner. PM me if interested. Clay/Lexi

Lexi is correct the jack is not specific to the eldorado. The spring is indeed a one year only spring. Not easy to find. Gas pedals are also a one year only part. Ain't this hobby fun ?

I thought the jack was different but can't recall if the base is also Eldo specific or the same as other '56 Cadillac jack bases. Is a base from a regular '56 Cadillac jack the same for the Eldo specific jack Lou? Clay/Lexi

Honest John has the spring.  I got one from him last year when I was restoring my 56 Biarritz.  I have an electric trunk release mechanism and a few other parts.

Clay/Lexi

I am in need of the spring, would any of the ones you have be for a 55?

Also my angle part that holds the tire in place seems to be the wrong length, what length is the one you have?

Thanks
Jason

Jason, regarding the spring, I think so. I obtained 2 or 3 springs from other '50s Caddies before I knew they were not correct for 1956. I can have a look in the MPL and see if they break down the springs for 1954, 1955 & 1957, though they may all be the same, with 1956 being the odd ball. If someone knows if the 'coiled' red springs are all the same for '54, '55 and '57, for example, please let us know. Anyways, I will PM you Jason. Would be nice to see one of these springs find a new Caddy home as they are so often missing. Will look into the length of that 'L' bolt & see what if anything is in the MPL on it as well. I know I got at least one extra which 99% sure came from a '56 Cadillac. Might have another and will PM you on all. Clay/Lexi
