I'd like to get some door edge guards for my 61 Eldo.  Does anyone have a source for those?

Mid Century Cadillac Discussion / Re: Question on length

Not sure what you mean by that question. All of the Cadillacs are riding on a 129" wheelbase. The only exception is the 60S which rides on a 133" wheelbase. So in reality the 60S sedan is longer than any 2 door car.

I can restore the pair I have for 2500 dollars. For some reason the site won't let me load pictures. If this helps you let me know.

Gents, that was just a test run of the piece. Of course it is going to be white. No colors = cheaper to produce.  The finished product is going to be darker and not come with the center pin. You will have to use your old center pin from the old clip, or fashion one from plastic from an old car model or something.  getting the pin is next on the list, but finding the correct size is challenging.

This is an exact replica of the old clip, so I hope the true enthusiasts will be pleased.

They are a bit too white, but I think if you roughed them up a bit with some 4-600 grit paper and then shot them with a semi-gloss off white or antique white, they'd look fine and they'd be easy to touch up if necessary.  You could also get a brass #12 or 1/4" machine screw and affix the retainer with it.  Then you could grind down the head to look like a brass rivet if a brass rivet can't be found.  When I get mine, I'll give that a shot and take some pictures and see what you all think.

I like the shape and the fact that it has the raised landing but the color is too stark white
needs to be an ivory off white .
Mid Century Cadillac Discussion / Looking for a body shop in North Carolina
« Last post by RobertM on Yesterday at 07:51:19 PM »
Hi all,

It's been a few years since I've posted in here.  I am getting the itch again!

I am looking for recommendations for a body shop in the Raleigh or Sanford NC area. I have a '54 60 Special and am looking for a shop to do body and paint. She is a great 20-footer, but once you get close you can see it's a tired quickie '80s paint job.

I already did everything under the hood. Rebuilt motor and trans, everything under there is restored/refurbished/repainted. But I'm definitely not a bodywork guy. To cut costs or time,  I could do the grunt work (sanding, etc).

Let me know if you know a restoration shop, or even a collision/body shop that will take a side project.

I currently live in Connecticut but plan on moving soon down toward that area to be nearer my parents and some other family. I am really hoping to bring the car down this winter ahead of my move.

Use card stock. (Manila folders) and begin to make paper templates. You can then see where you need to make folds and bends.  I got pretty decent at just hammering the metal to eventually take the shape I needed. I will be buying a slip roll and metal brake. And a shrinker  stretcher.

Look up YouTube videos of a guy making body panels for his willies Jeep. I learned a lot of tricks from him.

Any other thoughts? How did you close in the end of the patch piece, by closing in the outer rocker metal itself?
I have both a NEW inner rocker and a NEW outer rocker to start with.
