You have a lot of work to do.   I think the person with a similar situation was Mr. Rogers.

Naaah!!  I just looks bad.  It's realy not that much.  Lower Sills, inner and outer  and right front  floor pan.
The realy bad stuff is in the roof rail.  But,  this guy's done some realy  awfull rust buckets.
The rest of the Cad  came out Ok.  All paint and primer removed.  Will seal and block the surface and apply 3  coats of white.  Then  sand and block  2 layers and  then clear coat.
Will post progress as I go.

Do you not use an epoxy metal sealer over bare metal and then primed?
Title: Re: 1962 Coupe de Ville restoration
Post by: MoreRacing on September 05, 2017, 10:59:43 PM
Yes will do. The hole body will be sealed once body work is complete. Primered and a polyester coating applyed before white paint goes on.  2 or 3 coats to work orange peal off.  Then 2 coats of clear coat to seal, sand and buff final finish.

I did the drivers side of my car with steel rod and gas. It isn't bad for the inner bits but slow on the outer body. I saved up and bought a good quality Miller MIG and finished the passengers side in half the time.

Nice job.

Right you are. Tlaked to the guy about it. He said He is going to finish the outer panel with the mig welder.
I agree with You. Its faster and a cleaner weld.
Next up...the floor pan.   :o

Prepping the doors inner panel. Primed and sealed.
On the matter of the rubber cable conduits,  I'm using the 97 to 04 Corvette conduits because the original rubber came out in pieces. They where all gone and can't find repros.
The Corvette units from  97 to 04 models,  are longer the the previus years and are a perfect fit. (20.00 bucks at Ebay)

Nice work, looking great!
Our fellow skegger in New Zealand (guy67) has been working on reproducing the door conduits as is almost in production.
The corvette conduits look good too.
Advantage to original style is that, as you know, you can open up the spine and then close up with tabs without having to feed the wires through the conduit.
Hope we have an update soon on the new conduits.
Peace

It's coming along nicely. One thing though, the cornering lamp is not supposed to blink. It only comes on when the parking or headlights are on and the signal light is actuated. So on a right hand turn, if the lights are on, when you signal right, the right hand cornering lamp goes on and is turned off when the signal cancels. They are to provide additional illumination when turning in dark areas and work great. You can activate one or the other by signaling in the direction you want extra illumination if you like. They are pretty bright and are actually useful.
Title: Re: 1962 Coupe de Ville restoration
Post by: MoreRacing on October 06, 2017, 12:43:45 AM
I'm sorry I didn't explain the blinking. The thing is that I was missing the ground wire contac to the case of the bezel. It apeared as if it was blinking. It's just my unsteady hand making false contac with the screw holding the bulb case.
You are right,  it should be a steady, solid bright light beam.
Here I'm testing the rear stop light bezel. First, the red back park light. Then the bright stop light and finaly the intense reverse white light.  ( with a steadyer hand)

Really neat to see another one fixed and back on the road. Did you paint it yourself? Looking at the dates it's seems to have been done in pretty short order. My projects tend to take years! Good job! and very brave to do POR 15 with no gloves on! I used my 62 in my daughter's wedding too
Title: Re: 1962 Coupe de Ville restoration
Post by: MoreRacing on November 07, 2017, 10:23:40 PM
Nop...I did'n paint it myself.  I can clean rusted parts (using the vinegar and water method bytway) , I can put por-15 or chassis black. But...I leave the body work, prep, primer, paint and polish to "Ricardo". (That's His real name...bytway).
This guy is really a pro. Stripped and repeired the intire car. Welded sheatmetal and floor patch...and sealed the surface before  finishig the body panels. We stucked the the proyect day and nite,  because of the wedding dead line. Chassis stayed on. We didn't do a frame off. That's  two months time saved. (Frame is fairly Ok...bytwy).  The hardest part of the job, was puting back the door hardware and windows. Setting up this parts proper...is...a Pita.  I still need to make some small adjusmets for proper alignment of seams, rubber seals and trim.
Thaks All for your coments.
Need to restore the White Side Wall on the original Firestone spare tire...it's stained and I don't want to damage the surface.  Is there some paint or material that I can use?

Please check and correct. You have to make a 1 - 1/2  inch slit cut on the inner side of the conduit, that  goes on the smaller opening...towards the door frame.

They have 13 rings, wich are just enough for the doors of our Cadillacs.
The other corvette conduits have 9 rings.  Not enough to take the full slack when the doors are opened.
