Title: 54-55 Fleetwood trunk script
Post by: RobertM on February 03, 2018, 08:08:50 PM
Can someone please post a picture of what they know to be a correct '54-'55 Fleetwood trunk script?  Hopefully my 54 is going for paint soon and I am looking to replace my trunk script with NOS if I can find it, or a good repop.

Problem is, the two I can find for sale are slightly different than mine, but the same to each other, and that confuses me.  The greenish picture is mine, the second is supposedly NOS and the third is a repop.  The F, L and T are all different than mine, and both are much blockier.

My Sixty Special is from earlier in the production run, so I'm thinking maybe they changed to a sturdier style later in the run, or in '55.  Or those are both wrong.  Or mine is wrong. Any pictures would help.

Thanks, Bob

The parts book only shows one style for 54-55. Maybe @Agent86 can provide some insight.

After poring over a zillion pictures on Google, it appears the 2 for sale are actually '52-'53.  Mine is correct, '54-'55.
And I can't find a single one for sale.  I wonder if mine will replate okay. That's an option.

Yes, no luck there.  Or Caddy Daddy, or Caddy King. Or even the ridiculously expensive nosandrestoredcadillacparts.com.

But - I asked the seller of the repop one pictured, and he swears his is 54-55, then he showed me his 52-53 version. Guess what, he has them listed backwards, says he's sold them that way for 20 years. He thinks he is right, I'm not gonna fight it. He has the one I need, just mislisted.

Here’s a picture of the one on my 55 Fleetwood built in August of 55. I had mine replated at Custom Plating Specialists in Wisconsin for $150.00.and it looks great.

Thanks Bob! Much appreciated. That settles it for me. I'll call the place that plated my Vees and see if this is something they'll do. The eBay script is $189.

I can only hope my Sixty Special comes close to the level of yours when I'm done.  Really enjoyed watching the progress a couple years back.  I love that color.

He dropped the price to $139. Sold.  I'll see about replating and either selling or using the original. Whichever looks better and I'll sell the other. Good deal either way.  He doesn't believe me that it's listed wrong.

Here is a detailed picture of my 55 Fleetwood script, which I believe rather strongly to be an original item.

Here is a detailed picture of my 54 Fleetwood script.  I don't know if this is an original item or a reproduction.

Yes, I currently own both a 54 Fleetwood and a 55 Fleetwood.  Both in two-tone blue schemes...

Here is an original script from a 54 Fleetwood I previously owned.  Fairly certain that this one is an original (which makes me think that the gold one on my current 54 is incorrect).  This has the same appearance as my 55 FW script, but different from my current 54 FW script.

This Cobalt Blue 54 FW was an early production unit in the 54 model year (see the attached photo of the frame number).  And it has the same script as my original 55 FW.  So that tells me that the script on my current 54 FW (which is different from those two) is probably incorrect.  Rats.

The one on your current 54 looks like the one for 52-53. This eBay seller I contacted said he's been selling that one as 54-55 for 20 years, and really didn't want to hear anything different from me, I think.  I bought the piece he had advertised as 52-53, which was a really nice repop of the right one for our Ikes.

Perhaps.  Here is a 52 FW script...

I bought the one advertised as 52-53. The eBay seller still didn't want to hear that they were listed backwards.  He has another one listed now. https://www.ebay.com/itm/CADILLAC-1952-1953-FLEETWOOD-18K-GOLD-PLATE-REAL-NICE/152900428379

This is a really nice reproduction. Nicely plated and the script is almost perfect.
