54' Cadillac - Front Left side Spindle Nut / Thread
« on: January 09, 2017, 01:02:04 AM »
Gentleman,

I have found the threads on the drivers side (Front Left) spindle a bit worked on and the castle nut is missing.
Can you confirm the thread is a 3/4 20 Left Thread?

Where I can find a replacement castle nut to buy online and get it send over?

My plan is to restore the spindle thread (a bit of thread filing might be all it needs) and use it with the new Castle Nut.

cheers

Julio

Thanks Lou !

I think I will get this set
http://www.ebay.com/itm/381245037833?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

In the description it doesn't confirm being a ''pair'' one of them will be reverse thread but I will give it a shot. I couldn't find a single LH thread not for sale.

Cheers

novetti,
I've repaired a few spindle threads using a common "thread file" available at auto parts or tool suppliers. Works good, simple and cheap.....walt...tulsa,ok

Gentleman,

I still haven't managed to source this. I bought a ''kit'' from Dorman which I thought would include one nut been Left Hand Thread, however both nuts in the kit were normal Right Hand Threaded...

Any tips or would anyone here have a spare not needed anymore?

Cheers

Have you tried faded.fins@yahoo.ca? When I needed parts for my 55 he always had them.

Thanks bob, I will send him a message.

In case they don't carry it, I will probably machine one from scratch...stay tuned.

Iíve had the left front wheel bearing fail on my 1955 60S and now find that the spindle nut is frozen in place.  I wanted to be sure that it was lh or rh thread, and it appears to be lh thread like the lug nuts on that side of the car.  However, I note in the post from the Master Parts Book that parts listed under 1.1071 (nut, steering knuckle) are for a 3/4 x 20 bolt, while the same parts are listed elsewhere in the parts book under 22.0135 (nut, front wheel bearing) for a 3/4 x 10 bolt. In any event, the left and right sides are different indicating that they must be threaded differently ó as has already been pointed out by others.  Iím not sure what the correct thread pitch is (20 Iíd guess), but Iím hoping the nut will eventually just come off with no thread damage.
