DASH PAD COLOR
« on: October 11, 2017, 07:30:00 PM »
I think I may have asked this before on the old forum, but here it goes again, What color should my dash pad be on my 61 model 62 coupe? My exterior paint is maroon, with a white hardtop, seats and dashboard white, and carpet is maroon. My current pad is white but mildly custom and too thick. Trying to go as original as possible. Any advice on restoring my dash pad? Thanks again.

The pad on my '62 was a light creme color for a while, which looked great, but holy cow, I couldn't see out the windshield for the the reflection!! It was almost dangerous! I'll vote for the maroon color if you can find a real close match. My 2 scents.....
Been there and back, in my Cadillac...

Thanks, the glare on the white pad is bad on a sunny day.

Usually the dash pad matches the secondary darker color on the steering wheel, turn signal and gear shift knobs, given these haven't been painted or altered. Your build sheet would indicate this also. I had my dash pad done at www.justdashes.com. Good luck.

Did not know about the secondary color on the steering wheel matching the pad. My wheel has always been covered with a leather wrap as long as I've owned it,  so I'll check the gear shifter. I hear that Just Dashes does good work but are expensive. Thanks for the info.

If your dash is shiny it has been repainted. It should be flat in shine.

Checked the secondary colors on the steering wheel today. They are black, so I guess my original dash pad should be black. Thanks for the help.

Salesmans date book also states that the colors should appear to be a continuam of the exterior color, which makes me think that a red car should have a red dash pad. The same book has suggested colors, too. Unfortunately, I am separated from my book by about 150 miles at the moment, but can look it up upon my return home tomorrow evening.

Black would always be acceptable with a red car, too, I would think.
