Did you notice that the engine color is not correct. The second color on the steering wheel is gray and should match the interior color. Still it went for that kind of money...crazy!

WOW! That gives me hope for a high value for my 1962 Eldorado being that I have just as many AACA and concours awards.

And is that the correct steering wheel colors?

Steven,  I noticed some of the same things and told my wife that that auction price should make Steven Tuck a happy man. Your car is impeccable and couldn't be any more factory correct if it was sitting in the Cadillac showroom in 1962.

Thanks Doug. I try. To be honest, one auction does not make a trend. It might influence prices some but not drastically. I think that bidder got carried away and probably really wanted that car. To have that kind of money to drop on a car...good for him or her.

Nice car for sure, interior looks very correct, stitching looks nice and tight.
Give me hope for my car's value...that car has A/C and bucket seats, which the pastry does not, so that will hold mine down a tad.

Is it me, or does the car appear to be too high in the back end?
It just doesn't look like it has the correct springs in the rear...and it looks to have radials on it..

Nice car, but that is CRAZY money for that car.

I was watching that car for some time and had a friend there at the Indianapolis Auction. According to my source "The House" bought that car and several others at very inflated prices.  Something very fishy happened there.  Not just in that it sold for at least 3 times the book value, but that it was, as I remember, the purchase price aligned with  the estimated pre-auction value.  Very strange indeed.

Agreed the selling price is baffling to say the least.

At less than 1/3 the money just 3 years ago, the selling price of the Biarritz is difficult to justify from a purely analytical standpoint. An original 16,000 mile car, it's far more desirable than any restoration can hope to be.

Almost anything can happen at an auction as we all know. As far as establishing a benchmark for all 61/62 Biarritz - that's another matter altogether...

It would be interesting to see what this Sothebys auction 62 Series convertible would have sold for if it had been a Eldorado Biarritz convertible instead.
