Make 1956 Cadillac Inner Fender removable
« on: October 01, 2018, 05:35:43 AM »
Hi guys,

I am currently restoring the fenders on my 56 SDV.
Due to rust issues I had to take a total of 6 Fenders to make 2 good ones - I actually had to drill all the spot welds apart, used whatever sheet metal was good and spot welded them back together. I am now at the point where I only have to put the inner fender assembly to the outer fender hull.

I am think of making the inner fenders removable - as Cadillac did in later years.
It would be much simpler for later assembly and serviceability. Especially when you're one guy removing the fender.

Has anyone ever done this?

Thanks so much!

I have not, but I did toy with the same idea by placing blind rivet nuts at the fender to bolt the inner fender in place. However since the way the inner fender bolts at the front to the radiator support and the fender skirt and the rear to the side and bottom it was impractical and would require a considerable challenge to do them.  ???

Since you have yours out maybe you can modified them to make them removable.  ;)

Good luck..!
