« on: September 19, 2015, 08:33:41 AM »
Hi Guys: Can anyone tell me a procedure to test my a/c to see if I can get it to work? If it does not work, where to start?

Thanks BillM

does the compressor spin? Do you have freon in the system?

Ok good. Next step is to see if the compressor turns on when energized. If it does, turn it off and perform a vacuum test to check for leaks. I suspect that you may have just ran out of freon. It was acceptable to loose as much as a pound of freon per year on these old systems. If your vacuum test is good. I would then remove the compressor and replace the oil in the compressor. While you are at it, replace the o-rings at the hose connections too. Put everything back together and perform the vacuum test again. If all good, charge the system with freon.
