Correct 1956 Oil Filter Sticker Uncovered
« on: September 21, 2015, 06:51:24 PM »
Folks,

I now have three examples of the correct sticker that should be on a 1956 oil filter.

Let's start with the wrong sticker. The CLC authenticity manual for 54-56 Cadillacs says this sticker shown below is correct for 54-56. This sticker is NOT correct.

The following pictures are proof positive that this ring style sticker is not correct for 1956.

1956 photo of the Cadillac presidential limo aka Queen Mary. Notice the AC logo sticker on the oil filter.

Now here is a 17k mile original engine. Again there is that AC logo.

And last but not least is this 1956 SDV with only 9000 miles on it. Yep, the same AC logo on it.

So, now I'm on the hunt for the correct sticker for a 1956 Cadillac. I see a similar style is available for the 57 cars. I just need to confirm that it's the same as the 56 sticker.

How is one able to verify the veracity of the last two photos?  I ask as they look "photoshopped" to me?

Dave,

The 9k mile car is on eBay right now. No engine pics so i asked the seller for some pics and he provided that shot.

The 17k mile green engine bay car was a car recently on eBay. Car was owned by cad cliff.

No photoshop going on here.

Lou,

Would the old Chevy, Buick, or Oldsmobile have the decal you think is correct?

Johnny,

Yes the Chevy one is correct except the lettering is the wrong color.

First pic is an NOS 1956 Chevy filter canister. The 55 Chevy canister has the ring sticker just like Cadillac by the way.

Second picture is a clear shot of a 1958 Cadillac Oil filter sticker. It matches the 1956 Chevy sticker exactly, with the only exception being the color.

Here is where the vendors screw up history again.  A sticker for 1958 Cadillacs is available BUT it's only one half of the sticker. You can't just buy two stickers and be done with it. Take a good look at the factory stickers. The wording is different on each half.

Stupid petty crap ... I know. But now that I know what the sticker should be, it's sticks out like a sore thumb to me. Kinda like that scratch that only you notice on your car  ;D

Don't know of any other vendor at the moment. lots of new technology out there. I'm going to check locally with one of those vinyl wrap guys or a sign shop. See if they can help.

Here's another original 56 with the AC logo on the oil filter. Still has the original silk screen instructions on the air cleaner as well.

Lou, maybe you can get a waterslide type material and print direct from your PC - you can do this with iron on transfers for T shirts etc, so maybe [I know its a long shot] it is possible to print your own waterslide transfers also. Phil
